COVID-19 Emergency Measures Special Instructions

Please note other COVID related instructions elsewhere on this page.

It is important to the health and safety of yourselves and guest, ourselves as hosts and the the guest following you that you follow these directions.  When you booked we asked you to confirm that, to the best of your knowledge you have not come into contact with a person that has COVID-19 or have been out of the country in the last 14 day.  We accepted your booking on that basis.  If that has changed please let us know ASAP so that we can account for it.

When you check out we ask you to take the following steps to protect us all.

  • Use the lysol wipes provided in the kitchen cabinet above the sink to wipe down all surfaces including chairs, door knobs, light switches, taps and remotes.
  • Please launder the bedsheets, duvet cover and pillow cases along with the towels and cloths from both the kitchen and bathroom. This is likely going to be at least two loads. If you start this on the morning of your check out, there should be enough time. You will find detergent by the washer and dryer. Do the wash on the hot setting. Once the first load is washed, place it in the dryer and turn on. Then start a second load. Do not remove the items from the dryer. Just leave the first load in the dryer and the second load in the washer. If there is more laundry needed to be done, leave it in the laundry bin. Please wipe down with the Lysol wipes the laundry knobs, etc. that you have touched.
  • Please empty bathroom garbage into kitchen garbage. Take garbage, compost and recycling and empty into proper containers.  Please note the two red garages South of the Barn Studio, across the grassed area. The smaller garage to the West (right) has a garbage bins beside or behind it.  There is a also a small red building behind that garage.  Please put recycling in the blue recycling bins there and place compost in the green compost bins there.
  • Please clean all dirty dishes in the sink.

You should find the door unlocked when you arrive.  You will find the key inside right of the white door with a green tag hanging on a hook.

Safety & Fire Alarm

There are smoke alarms at either end of the Barn Studio and in its washroom.  If the alarm sounds, please check to see if it is a nuisance alarm coming from cooking.

There is a fire extinguisher on the right end of Studio’s kitchen.  If there is a fire extinguisher, please use it to extinguish the fire.  Please do everything you can to put out the fire.  If you have done all you can, leave the building by door on either end and call 911.

There are light switches for the various spaces of the Studio.

East Entrance Door Switches (in right to left order) – 1) the main lights for the space, 2) the east outdoor lights.

Living Space Wall Switch – the light above the south west barn doors, this offers additional light for the living area.

Bed Space Wall Switch – the light above the south west barn doors, this offers additional light for the bed area.

Bathroom Switches (in right to left order) – 1) the main light, 2) shower exhaust fan.  West Wall Switch left of door – out door light.

COVID-19 Emergency Measures Special Instructions – Food Delivery

If you are coming to self-isolate, food delivery can be arranged.  The easiest way to do this is for you to place an order with FoodLand, the local grocery store. Email them at providing them with your name, phone number and list or ordered items and your preferred pick up day (they may need at least 2 days notice). They will call you to confirm the the order details and get a credit card number. When the order is ready, you can let us know and we can pick up for you. If you like, you can have your order placed so that we have your food in your accommodations ready for you before you arrive.

The kitchen features a fridge, freezer, sink, induction cooktop, stove, and microwave/range hood.  Specific notes for the induction cooktop and stove are located on pages Here.  Please refer there for those notes.

A few important notes; 1) the induction cooktop can only be used with the pots provided on the shelves above the stove that are induction compatible.  2)  Please use the range hood when cooking greasy or smoky foods.  The range hood controls can be found on the microwave.

You are welcome to use the upper and lower shelves for your food items as you need for your stay.

Garbage, Recycling and Organic Waste

COVID-19 Emergency Measures Special Instructions

Please remove all garbage, recycling and compost from the suite and place in the appropriate bins in the lean-to that is left of the one door red garage. Thanks!

There is a garbage bin (black), a recycling bin (blue) and Organic Waste Bin (green) beside the refrigerator.  If these both become filled, or when leaving simply tie the bag and take to our garbage disposal area.  To find this area, please note the two red garages South of the Barn Studio, across the grassed area. The smaller garage to the West (right) has a garbage bins beside or behind it.  There is a also a small red building behind that garage.  Please put recycling in the blue recycling bins there and place compost in the green compost bins there.   The Organic Waste (“green”) Bin MUST ONLY INCLUDE ORGANIC WASTE. no plastic or paper towels.

The toilet will accept only human waste and toilet paper.   The toilet will not accept feminine hygiene products like pads or tampons, paper towel or flushable wipes.  Flushing such items or anything hard, plastic, metal, etc. will damage the septic system and you will be held responsible for the resulting repairs.

Laundry Facilities

Laundry washer and dryer are offered for your convenience.  Detergent is available for short term guests.  Guests staying longer than a week are expected to provide their own detergent.

Internet and Entertainment

There is Wi-Fi Internet in the Studio.  The wifi is called “Wifi” and the password is mills6?!

This Internet connection is shared with the other buildings on the property, so your speed may be effected by other people also using the Internet.  The Wi-Fi router is located directly in the Barn Studio, so you should get a strong signal.  If for some reason the internet stops working or is unstable, please contact us and we will resolve the issue.

There is a 40” TV in the Studio.  It has a Chromecast connected to it.  It does not have a remote control.  Simply use the power button on it’s left to power it on.  Netflix, Youtube, Spotify and other apps are access via your smart phone and the Chromecast.  Make sure you are on the wifi, start the app and you should see the casting icon on the screen.  Choose the BarnStudioCast and you should see that app appear on the TV.  The TV is not connected to an Antenna and is not connected to cable or satellite.

You are welcome to connect any other HDMI device to its second input on the side of the TV.

Note that there are USB Charger receptacles provided by kitchen counter, on the left and right sides of the bed and at receptacle under TV.

Heating and Cooling

The Studio has in-floor heating, the control for this is available in the living area to the left of the interior barn doors. Be aware that it takes substantial time for the floors to change temperature and warm the space.

A/C Cooling – During the summer, there is a window mounted unit above the kitchen sink.  Use the controls on the unit set your desired temperature.

Behind the large white barn doors in the kitchen area are large inverters for the solar panels that are on the roof. These may make some noise and will produce heat in the space.

Exterior Furniture, BBQ and Accessories

You are welcome to enjoy the picnic table and BBQ under the tree in front of the Studio.

The BBQ can be dangerous especially if a grease fire gets going.  Please use the BBQ wisely and at a safe distance from the house.  Turn BBQ’s propane tank valve in the ON direction.  Turn on gas valves on front of BBQ and hold down the igniter button to light each burner.  There are cooking utensils underneath the BBQ.  Please turn off the tank when you are done.

Please respect this furniture as your own.  You will be charged for damage to these items.

What to do on the Property

You are welcome to use the picnic tables and move them as you wish.  There are fire pits on the property that you can make use of; please contact us for details.

There are walking trails in the tree bush South of the house and red cabin.  Start South down the path and you will come to a pond.  There is a trail on the left (East) and right (West) side of the pond that will take you down in the trails.  The trails are unmarked at this point.  If you keep walking south, you will meet a gravel road and fence / gate .. that is the extent of our property.  Coming back the other pay on the trails will bring you back to pond and then back up to the Cabin.

Beware that during the summer the bush can have a lot of mosquitos.  You are best to cover up or use bug / mosquito repellent.  There is a can of repellent in the small upper cabinet if not ask us.

You are welcome to walk or bike down our lane towards the road and walk on the road.  The road is not heavily traveled but vehicles can be travelling fast.  Beware and be safe.  If you did not bring bikes, we may have one that suits your needs.

There may be cattle (cows) in the field beside the lane.  Do not try to touch or get close to them.  Simply enjoy them from a distance.  There is an electric fence keeping them in.  If you touch the fence YOU WILL GET A SHOCK.

Solar Panels

There are a number of solar panel assemblies on the property.  These generate electricity that provides green energy to our farm and the electricity grid.  They are cool to look at.  Please do not stand on their structures or touch any of the controls or cabinets associated with them.  If you would like to know more about them, feel free to ask.

The Barn

The barn is NOT an accessible space to you.  It is under construction with many dangers present.  Even if the doors are open, you are not welcome to enter unless directly invited. If you are interested in what is going on, please contact us and we’ll be happy to answer your questions.

Wild Life in the Area

You are in the countryside and wild life does exist in the area.  There are no bears.  You may hear coyote or wolves at night.  They tend to stay in the forest and not come near the buildings.  We have never seen any at night.  Smaller animals like skunks, ground hogs, squirrels, raccoons, etc may be out during the day or night.  Remember, they are more scared of you than you should be of them.  Having said that, respect them, give them space and let them go on their way.  Treat them with respect and they’ll leave you alone.
